In October 2012, the government of Japan initiated a sunset review and extended the duty in March 2014. In April 2018, a new sunset review was initiated.

On October 30, 2012, the Japanese authorities initiated a sunset review of the anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of electrolytic manganese dioxide from China, South Africa and Spain. The product subject to investigation is classified under the following HS code: 2820.10.
On March 5, 2014, the Japanese authorities decided upon the continuation of the definitive anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of electrolytic manganese dioxide from China, South Africa and Spain. The rate of the duty imposed on imports originating in China ranges from 34.3% to 46.5%, depending on the company. The rate of the duty imposed on imports originating in South Africa is 14.5%. The rate of the duty imposed on imports originating in Spain is 14%. This definitive duty entered into force on March 6, 2014. The original anti-dumping duty was decided on August 29, 2008 and entered into force on September 1, 2008.
On 18 April 2018, the Japanese authorities initiated a sunset review of the definitive antidumping duty imposed on imports of the subject good from China. No sunset review is yet initiated on the definitive duty imposed on imports from South Africa and Spain.
