Anti-dumping

On April 24, 2009, the New Zealand Ministry of Economic Development issued a notice initiating a review of the anti-dumping duty on imports of galvanised wire from Malaysia.
The review is taking place on request from Pacific Wire on March 6, 2009. The duty has been in place since April 2004 and was due to expire on April 27, 2009.

On November 17, 2009, the Ministry of Economic Development decided to extend the anti-dumping measures in force for a period of five years. The dumping margin is calculated at 15% ad valorem.

On June 25, 2014, the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment decided to initiate a sunset review of the anti-dumping duty dated November 17, 2009 imposed on galvanised steel wire of high, medium and low tensile strength between (and including) 2mm and 4.5mm in diameter originating in Malaysia.
The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS codes: 7217.2010 and 7217.2090.
The application for a review was lodged on March 17, 2014 by Pacific Wire.

On December 16, 2014, the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment decided upon the continuation of the anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of galvanised steel wire originating in Malaysia. On the same day, a duty reassessment has been initiated to determine the new amount/rate of the anti-dumping duty.

On 25 March 2020, the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment initiated a sunset review on imports of galvanised wire from Malaysia. This follows the application lodged by the domestic industry.

On 21 September 2020, the New Zealand authorities extended the definitive duty imposed on imports of galvanised wire from Malaysia following the conclusion of the sunset review. The rate of duty is 19%.
