Controls on commercial transactions and investment instruments
On 13 December 2010, the National Treasury of South Africa issued Exchange Control Circular No. 44/2010, which increases the limits (by 5 percentage points) to the amounts that institutional investors can invest offshore. Retirement funds and long-term insurers (non-investment linked) can now hold 25% of their portfolio in assets abroad, all other institutional investors 35%.
