In August 2009, the members of SACU initiated a sunset review and the definitive duty was extended for a new period in March 2010. In February 2015, a sunset review was initiated and the definitive duty was extended for a new period in July 2015. In July 2020, a sunset review was initiated and the definitive duty was extended for a new period in April 2021.

Anti-dumping

On August 21, 2009, the South African authorities initiated a sunset review of the anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of flat and float glass from China and India. The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS codes: 7004.9000 and 7005.2900.

On March 26, 2010, the South African authorities decided upon the continuation of the definitive anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of flat and float glass from China and India. The amount of the duty imposed on imports originating in China ranges from 562c to 802c per square metre (USD 0.542475 to USD 0.774136 per square metre at the exchange rate of May 19, 2014). The amount of the duty imposed on imports originating in India ranges from 587c to 1387c per square metre (USD 0.566803 to USD 1.33928 per square metre at the exchange rate of May 19, 2014).
 
On February 20th, 2015, the South African authorities published the notice of initiation of a sunset review of the above-mentioned anti-dumping measure.
The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS codes: 7004.9090, 7005.2917, 7005.2923 and 7005.2925.
This review follows the application lodged on July 15th, 2014 by PFG Building Glass, the sole producer of the subject goods in the Southern African Customs Union.
 
On July 16th, 2015, the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) of South Africa issued its final findings and recommended the continuation of the existing anti-dumping measure.
 
On July 31st, 2015, the South African authorities published the notice of extension of the existing anti-dumping measure following the decision of the Minister of Trade and Industry to approve the ITAC's recommendation.

On 19 July 2020, the International Trade Administration Commission initiated a sunset review on imports of certain drawn glass and blown glass, in sheets from China and India. The investigation follows the application lodged by PFG Building Glass (Pty) Ltd.

On 9 April 2021, the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa issued a notice extending the definitive duty imposed on imports of flat and float drawn glass from China and India following the conclusion of the sunset review.
