On 18 July 2011, Indonesia granted government borne import duties to a variety of products used in the production of heavy equipment.
"Government borne" means that the import duty will be refunded by thestate. Even though the importer has to pay the regular duty upfront, themeasure could also be regarded as a zero tariff for the importer.
This measure is aimed at increasing the value added in the local production of heavy equipment and is intended to boost the import of raw materials/intermediate goods rather than finished products. The measure is temporary and will expire on 31 December 2011.
An exact list of materials can be found in the annex of the regulation.
