Import tariff

On 6 June 2022, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) issued Notice R. 2137 reducing the customs duty on sugar from 414,85c/kg (approximately USD 0.25) to 299.46c/kg (around USD 0.18). 

The affected products are classified under the following HS codes subheadings: 1701.12, 1701.13, 1701.14, 1701.91, and 1701.99. The new rate applies both for the general MFN trade and to the Preferential Trade Agreements partners, including the EU/UK, EFTA, SADC, MERCOSUR, and AfCFTA. 

The import tariff was reduced in accordance with ITAC Minute 07/2021.
