Import licensing requirement

On 5 May 2014, the President of the Russian Federation, Mr Vladimir Putin, signed Federal Law 106-FZ 'On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation'.

It introduces the obligation for foreign companies wishing to operate in Russia to receive accreditation for their professional activity. The first vice-president of the Russian public organisation "Russian Union of the Engineers", Mr Ivan Andrievskii, interpreted this policy for 'Rossiyskaya gazeta', an official newspaper of the Russian government, as follows: 'In this way, Russia is taking comprehensive measures to protect itself against sanctions from Western countries' (related to the events in Ukraine).
