Local supply requirement for exports

On 11 January 2022, the Australian government reported that it has reached an in-principle agreement to build an mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility in the state of Victoria. The agreement includes priority access to mRNA vaccines manufactured at the Australian facility. The facility is expected to manufacture vaccines against COVID-19, seasonal influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus among others.

The facility is expected to start in 2024 and produce up to 100 million vaccines each year.
