Financial grant

On 12 April 2022, the French government launched a EUR 400 million (USD 434.2 million) project call to finance "emerging actors" in the low-carbon aviation sector. The support takes the form of, among others, financial grants. According to the project call, "emerging actors" are companies, regardless of their size, that aim to position as global competitors in the low-carbon aviation sector. The scheme will be implemented by the Public Investment Bank and Export Credit Agency of France, Bpifrance. It will be open until 8 December 2022.

In particular, the eligible projects relate the research, development and commercialisation of a low-carbon aircraft (electric, hybrid aviation, flying taxis, etc.) to the market. The minimum expenditure per project is EUR 1 million for SMEs and EUR 5 million for big companies.

Notably, the support was granted under the aeronautic component of the France 2030 investment strategy. The project call also provides support in the form of reimbursable payments or state loans (see related intervention).
