Safeguard

On April 7, 2014, the Indian Directorate General of safeguards initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of not alloyed ingots of unwrought aluminium.
The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS code: 7601.1010.
This follows the application lodged by M/s Hindalco Industries Ltd., M/s Sesa Sterlite Ltd. and M/s Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd., which account for 71% of the domestic production of the subject goods.
According to the UN Comtrade Database, in 2013 the following countries exported goods classified under HS code subheading 7601.10 to India with a trade value over USD 1 million: the United Arab Emirates (USD 156.89 million), Oman (USD 146.13 million), South Africa (USD 85.13 million), Russia (USD 12.78 million), Qatar (USD 5.06 million), Bahrain (USD 3.49 million), Singapore (USD 2.32 million), Nigeria (USD 2.08 million), Australia (USD 1.69 million), New Zealand (USD 1.41 million) and Brazil (USD 1.07 million).
On October 7, 2014 the Indian Directorate General of safeguards decided to terminate the safeguard investigation on imports of not alloyed ingots of unwrought aluminium.
