On 11 January 2014, Vietnam opened certain types of logistic services to foreign investors, albeit in some cases with restrictions. Such market access is required under Vietnam's service sector commitments to the WTO.
- Storage & warehousing services and freight forwarding services are now open to 100% foreign ownership in companies
- Container handling services and freight transportation services by road still have restrictions on ownership and require setting up joint ventures with Vietnamese partners.
- Other services on behalf of cargo owners such as checking bill of lading, sampling and weight determination, preparing transportation documents, etc. foreign investors are required to establish a joint venture with a Vietnamese partner, however there is no restriction on foreign ownership.
