On 6 March 2022, the government of Canada amended the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations, banning any Russian ship from entering Canadian territory in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. According to the announcement, no ship that is "registered in Russia or used, leased or chartered, in whole or in part" is allowed to dock in or pass through Canada. The only exception to the ban is the need to protect human life or guarantee navigational safety.
The action is part of a series of sanctions imposed by Canada on Russia in response to their attack on Ukraine in February 2022 (see related state acts).
