On 24 March 2022, the government of Canada adopted Regulations Amending the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations (SOR/2022-067), introducing a ban on the goods and technologies included in the "Restricted Goods and Technologies List". The measure prohibits the export of goods and technologies in the areas of "electronics, computers, telecommunications, sensors and lasers, navigation and avionics, marine, aerospace and transportation" in order to undermine Russian military capability in light of its invasion of Ukraine.
According to the announcement, any Canadian resident or national is prohibited from exporting, selling, shipping, or supplying the goods mentioned in the Restricted Goods and Technologies List to Russia or Russian residents. Likewise, no Canadian resident or national is allowed to provide to Russia or any person in Russia the technology listed in the Restricted Goods and Technologies List. Any assistance in the aforementioned prohibited activities is forbidden.
The current export ban is part of a series of sanctions adopted by Canada and imposed on Russia in response to the Ukraine invasion, see related state acts.
