Import tariff quota

On 22 May 2013, the EC introduced a tariff quota for certain quantities of industrial sugar.
To ensure that the supply necessary for the production is available, the EC introduced a duty free tariff quota for sugar under order number 09.4390 (refers to HS code 1701).

The measure is considered trade liberalising because the duty free tariff quota means, that the regular duty is suspended for a quantity up to 400.000 tonnes. The measure can also be seen as a tariff suspension for a maximum quantity of 400.000 tonnes.

The scheme entered into force on 1 October 2013 and expired on 30 September 2014.
