Financial grant

On 28 January 2021, the Portuguese public financing agency, Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT in Portuguese) opened applications for the "2021 R&D Projects call in All Scientific Domains". This open call has a total budget of EUR 75 (USD 90) million for the delivery of financial grants. Applications must be submitted by 10 March 2021. Applicants may include companies of any size as well as non-business entities.

Under the scheme, two types of projects are particularly targeted. First, scientific research and technological development projects will benefit from a budget of EUR 60 million. Projects will have a maximum duration of 36 months and benefit from a maximum grant of EUR 250'000. Second, exploratory research projects of technological development concepts with innovation potential will benefit from a EUR 15 million budget. Projects will have a maximum duration of 18 months and benefit from a maximum grant of EUR 50'000. 

Notably, applications for the 2020 edition had lapsed out in March 2020 (see related state act).

According to its website, FCT is a state-owned financial agency that supports the competitiveness and quality of Portuguese science, technology and innovation in all scientific domains. The organisation is funded by the Portuguese state budget and European structural funds.
