On 11 November 2021, Saudi Arabia approved and issued a royal decree to grant citizenship to talented foreigners. This policy will be extended to "experts and exceptional global talents with unique competencies in religious, medical, scientific, cultural, sports and technological fields."
The decree has been passed in support of the Vision 2030 programme of Saudi Arabia. The Vision 2030 strategic plan was formulated in April 2016 to diversify the country's economy and reduce its dependence on hydrocarbons.
