Instrument unclear

On 27 February 2022, the French government announced the closure of its air space to Russian aircraft and airlines. The measure entered into force on 27 February 2022 evening. Also, the state-owned Air France announced the suspension of its service and overflight to Russia.

According to the notice, the measure comes in the context of Russia's attack on Ukraine and the resulting increasing tensions. In this context, France's State-Secretary for Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, tweeted: "To the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Europe responds with total unity".

Update

On 28 February 2028, the European Union adopted Council Regulation (EU) 2022/334 banning Russian air carriers from the EU airspace (see related state act).
