Import tariff

On 13 May 2013, the Federal Administration of Public Revenue (AFIP) adopted General Resolution 3497 which introduces reference values on imports of various types of synthetic fabrics (such as polyester) originating from various Asian countries. The goods figure under the Mercosur Nomenclatures (NCM) 5513.12.00, 5513.23.10, 5513.39.11, and 5513.49.11. The corresponding reference prices are free on board (FOB) and range from USD 3.83to USD 8.47 The measure took effect on 21 May 2013.
Argentina introduced reference values of precautionary nature for importgoods in June 2005. The stated purpose is to strengthen customs controland prevent under-invoicing. Importers are required to provideguarantees for the difference in duties and taxes if the declared priceof an import is lower than its reference price (see 7th GTA Report and 2014 National Trade Estimate Report).
