Export tax

On 21 June 2011, the Federal Administration of Public Revenue (AFIP) adopted General Resolution 3135 which introduces reference values applicable to prawns (Pleoticus muelleri) belonging to Mercosur Nomenclature (NCM) 0306.13.91.

The reference values vary from USD 3.20to 8.50per kg depending on how the prawns have been packaged. The export price set by the traders shall not deviate more than 15% from the reference value. The measure is directed at all prawn exports registered from 1 May 2011 to 31 July 2011. Thus, the measure takes effect retroactively.

Argentina introduced reference values of precautionary nature for exportgoods in 2005 (in Spanish: valores referenciales de carácterpreventivo). The stated purpose is to safeguard the revenue derived fromthe payment of export duties (see WTO Trade Policy Review). The reference values are based on free on board (FOB) prices in USD. Alist with all current reference values can be consulted under: www.afip.gob.ar/Aduana/valoracion/Valores%20Referenciales%20vigentes.pdf
