Export tax

On 24 May 2012, the Federal Administration of Public Revenue (AFIP) adopted General Resolution 3336 which updates the reference values applicable to prawns (Pleoticus muelleri) belonging to Mercosur Nomenclature (NCM) 0306.17.10.

The reference values vary from USD 3.20 to 8.50per kg depending on how the prawns have been packaged. The export price set by the traders shall not deviate more than 20% from the reference value. The measure is directed at all prawn exports registered from 1 April 2012 to 31 December 2012. Thus, the measure takes effect retroactively.

Argentina introduced reference values of precautionary nature for exportgoods in 2005 (in Spanish: valores referenciales de carácterpreventivo). The stated purpose is to safeguard the revenue derived fromthe payment of export duties (see WTO Trade Policy Review). The reference values are based on free on board (FOB) prices in USD. Alist with all current reference values can be consulted under: www.afip.gob.ar/Aduana/valoracion/Valores%20Referenciales%20vigentes.pdf

Finally, General Resolution 3336 suspends the reference values under NCM 0306.13.91 stipulated in General Resolution 3192 of 26 September 2011 (see 'Related Measures').
