On 10 January 2022, Indonesia set an import quota of raw sugar at 3.4 million tonnes for 2022. The affected products were under HS codes 170112, 170113, and 170114.
The objective was to ensure the stock of raw sugar met domestic demands.
Previously, on 18 February 2020, Indonesia introduced the Ministry of Trade Regulation No. 14/2020, banning the import of certain types of sugar, including raw sugar. Indonesia set an import quota of raw sugar at 3.2 million tonnes for 2021. (see related acts).
The import quota was applied until 31 December 2022.
