Financial assistance in foreign market

On December 27th, 2021, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) announced it had signed a loan deal with Mitsubishi HC Capital Co., Ltd. to fund its acquisition of CAI International, Inc., a US company based in San Francisco. The loan was for the amount of USD 600m.

According to the press release announcing the deal, Mitsubishi HC Capital 'plans to strengthen its marine container leasing business and expand globally'. The release went on to state that the loan, 'will provide long-term foreign currency funds necessary for overseas M & A by Mitsubishi HC Capital, thereby financially supporting the overseas business expansion of Japanese companies and maintaining and improving the international competitiveness of Japanese industries'.

JBIC provides direct loans named overseas investment loans to Japanese companies, overseas affiliates or joint ventures where Japanese companies hold equity interests and governments or financial institutions partying with such overseas affiliates.
