On 27 March 2014, the Indian Ministry for New and Renewable Energy launched a support scheme for installation of 10'000 solar photovoltaic water pump systems.

The Ministry will provide 40% grant support for the installation of 10'000 solar photovoltaic water pump systems with a total project budget of INR 228 crores (USD 37 million). The scheme was introduced for a period of 2 years and required the use of domestically produced photovoltaic modules for the pump systems.

On 3 November 2014, the Ministry introduced a scheme with increase number of supported installations and revised guidelines. The current measure was merged into the new scheme (see related measure).
