On 22 June 2021, the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) announced a temporary import tariff quota increase of 1000 tonnes for butter from 1 July 2021 to 31 December 2021. All products falling under tariff lines 0405.10.11, 0405.10.91, and 0405.90.10 are covered. The import tariff for products within the in-volume quota for tariff line 0405.10 is CHF 200/tonne (approx. USD 217), while for tariff line 0405.90 is CHF 300/tonne (approx. USD 326). For imports falling out of the in-quota volume, the import tariff amounts to CHF 16,420/tonne (approx. USD 17,840).
The import tariff quota on butter for 2021 was initially set at 100 tonnes. This is the second temporary increase of the tariff import quota for 2021, see also the related state act for the first temporary increase in February 2021 by 1,500 tonnes for 2021. The total tariff quota until 31 December 2021 was thus increased to 2,600.
This measure aims at meeting increased demand on the Swiss market that domestic production is not able to meet.
