On 25 October 2012, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Gruppo Sacmi signed an agreement worth EUR 45 million (approx. USD 58 million) for the project Gruppo Sacmi R&d from Italy. The total cost of the project is estimated at EUR 91 million.

According to the project description issued by the EIB, The project concerns the promoters investment in research, development and innovation (RDI) in the field of machinery for ceramic, beverage & packaging, food processing and plastic industries. The RDI activities will be carried out in Italy and mainly in the promoters headquarters and R&D centre located in Imola (in the province of Bologna, Italy) in the period 2012-2015..

The objective of the project is defined as following: The project concerns the promoters investment in research, development and product / process innovation in the field of manufacturing machines and complete plants for the ceramics, beverage & packaging, processing and plastics industries..
