On January 27, 2009, the New Zealand Ministry of Economic Development decided, after having conducted a sunset review, to continue the anti-dumping duty on imports of hog bristle paintbrushes for household or industrial use from China.
The product subject to the duty is classified under the following HS code: 9603.4000.
This duty follows a sunset review requested by Haydn Brush Co. Ltd. A review was then initiated by the New Zealand Ministry of Economic Development on July 11, 2008. The initiation of the review was notified in the New Zealand Gazette on July 17, 2008.
The original anti-dumping duty entered into force in May 1988 and had then been several times reviewed and reassessed. The last review and the last reassessment took place respectively in April 2003 and July 2003. The existing duty was scheduled to expire on July 14, 2008.
A reassessment of the amount of the anti-dumping duty was initiated on January 27, 2009 (on the day the sunset review was completed). On March 16, 2009, the New Zealand Minister of Commerce reassessed the rate of the anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of hog bristle paintbrushes from China. This reassessed duty entered into force on March 17, 2009. The amount of the duty is defined by the New Zealand Customs Instructions 'Hog Bristle Paintbrushes from China' E/009/CS002/001 dated April 2009.
The duty imposed on hog bristle paintbrushes expired on March 16, 2014.
