Internal taxation of imports

On 23 December, the Brazilian Ministry of Finance announced a two-step increase for the industrial products tax, also known as IPI, on imported cars. Depending on the car type, the IPI shall be raised by up to 30 percentage points for the period from 1 January to 30 June 2014. From 1 July to 31 December 2017, the IPI shall be increased further by up to 4 percentage points, again depending on the car type.
 
Finally, the decree foresees the reduction the IPI on all stated products from 1 January 2018.
