On December 19, 2013, the government of the Maldives, through its Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, revealed in a press conference the intention to replace as many foreign workers as possible by Maldivians. Although no concrete plans have yet been communicated, young unemployed Maldivians can already register in a government database and the government is aiming to provide 75 per cent of those persons with jobs before the end of July 2014.
