Import tariff quota

On 19 December 2011, the European Commission increased the annual tariff quota for Rum (HS code 2208.40) from 108 000 hectoliters to 120 000 hectoliters (article 3 (1) Council Decision 896/2011).

The tariff rate quota only applies to French 'overseas departments' (Preamble (1)), namely: Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique and Reunion. Therefore it is considered discriminatory with respect to all other rum importers to the EU.

Furthermore, the amendment foresees that the period of application is extended until 31 December 2013.
