Import ban

On 28 May 2013, the Ministry of Trade (according to Regulation 22/2013) eased restrictions on imports of live animals, meat and other animal-based products.

The regulation eliminates:

  • provisions regulating the import level based on domestic shortages,
  • quantitative provisions such as quotas and allocations,
  • application deadlines to obtain import permits.

Furthermore, a pre-shipment inspection is introduced allowing faster clearance of imports.

Nevertheless, imports of certain goods (listed in the appendix of the regulation) still require an import permit and an importer registration.
