On 21 June 2013, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Santander Uk Plc signed an agreement worth EUR 234 million (approx. USD 309 million) for the project Santander Uk Loan for SMEs and Midcaps from United Kingdom.

According to the project description issued by the EIB, The operation will be used to finance SMEs and midcaps investments.

The objective of the project is defined as following: To provide an alternative source of funding for financial institutions to enhance their SME and midcaps lending..
