Labour market access

Certain groups of internatioal students benefit from improved rights to work in New Zealand since January 2013. The conditions have changed as follows:

  • International PhD and research students at the Master's level are now allowed to take up full-time positions. Previously, these students were allowed to work at most 20 hours per week.
  • All international students are allowed to take up full-time positions during holiday breaks if their programme of study requests at least 120 credits and lasts at least two semesters.
