Import tariff

On July 12, 2013 upon the advice of the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) published the elimination of the tariff on constant velocity (CV) joints(HS 8708.50.30), previously at 20% ad valorem for non-EU/EFTA countries, effective immediately.

The ITAC based its decision on the fact that CV joints are no longer manufactured in the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) and that the existing duty has an unnecessary cost-raising impact.

Affected trading partners
The GTA retrieves its data on affected tradingpartners from UN Comtrade. However, for the year 2012, the database wasnot able to provide the affected trading partners for Botswana,Swaziland, and Lesotho.
