Internal taxation of imports

On 31 August 2010, the President of the Republic, Hugo Chavez Frias, adopted Decree No. 7.658 which temporarily eliminates the Value Added Tax (VAT) on imports of ink, paper products, plastic plates and containers, rubber products, screws, padlocks, cables and various other goods. According to the decree, this temporary import VAT elimination applies to imports made by the National Electoral Council (Consejo Nacional Electoral).
 
This measure entered into force on the same day for the period of one year.
