Azerbaijan, New Immigration Law Will Take Effect August 1

n August 1, 2013, a new immigration law in Azerbaijan takes effect. The law will liberalise international migration in the following categories:
The new law foresees that one-year business visas will allow a 90-day cumulative stay per year. Previously, there was no regulation about the maximum cumulative stay for business visitors. Another new option introduced by the law is that business visas can be renewed for an additional period of 90 days.
The processing time for work permits is reduced from 35 to 20 days. Certain groups of international migrants are to be granted work permit exemptions. Among them are: branch or deputy managers can obtain a maximum of three exemptions for each branch office located in Azerbaijan; employees of accredited mass media organisations
Temporary Residence Permits
The new law introduces additonal categories for investment and highly skilled migrants with maximum initial validity of one year. They can be renewed each year 30 days before expiry.
