Export ban

The Export Controls Division of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada is requesting comments on possible regulatory amendment(s) that could result in the addition of Brazil, Chile, Peru and Korea to the Automatic Firearms Country Control List (AFCCL).

The AFCCL is a list of countries that the Government of Canada has deemed it appropriate to permit the export of any items included on the Export Control List (ECL) to and with which the Government of Canada has signed an intergovernmental defence, research, development and production arrangement. There are currently 34 countries listed on the AFCCL.

These proposed regulations, if ultimately approved by the Governor in Council, will allow exporters of certain prohibited firearms, prohibited weapons and prohibited devices to submit permit applications for the export of these items to the four countries. Submissions must be received no later than August 7, 2013.

On 10 April 2014, Canada officially added Chile and Peru to the AFCCL.
