ANNOUNCEMENT 02 Aug 2013In August 2013, the government of Canada announced a change in import duties.
NUMBER OF INTERVENTIONS
The Canadian Department of Finance is reviewing a request to remove customs duties on imports of steel fibres for use in the manufacture of reinforced concrete structures. These goods are inserted into preset concrete for the purpose of replacing rebar. These fibres are classified under tariff item No. 7326.20.00 of the Customs Tariff as articles of iron or steel wire, dutiable at 6.5% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff. The applicant claims that steel fibres for use in the manufacture of reinforced concrete structures are not available from Canadian production and that tariff relief would enhance its competitiveness in the domestic market. Comments on the request are due by August 2, 2013.
