In December 2009, the government of Ecuador announced an alteration to its export prohibitions.

On 10 December 2009, Ecuador's Trade and Investment Board (Consejo de Comercio Exterior e Inversiones COMEXI) adopted Resolution No. 529 prohibiting the import of incandescent light bulbs between 25 and 100 Watts for use in the residential sector. This measure entered into force on 1 January 2010.
On 16 July 2020, the Ecuador's Foreign Trade Committee (COMEX) adopted Resolution No. 007-2020 that indefinitely extends the import ban.
