In September 2020, the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a loan agreement with the Lithuanian company Energijos skirstymo operatorius AB (ESO) to support the installation of the new electric metering system.

On 23 September 2020, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius AB (ESO) signed a loan agreement having a total value of EUR 110 million (approx. USD 130.9 million) to support the installation of a new electric metering system.
The new metric system is expected to replace the existing electromechanical meters and install around 1.2 million electricity smart meters in Lithuania in the period 2020-2023.
