Export tax

On 3 June 2021, the Ministry of Trade and Industry issued decree no. 59 of 2021 that increased the export duty imposed on nitrogen fertilizers from EGP 600 (approx. USD 38.13)/tonne to EGP 2500 (approx. USD 159.66)/tonne. The new price applies for a period of a year.

The new decision revokes the export tax adopted via decree no. 112 of 2021 (see related state act).

In this context, the Minister of Trade and Industry Neveen Gamaeh said: "The scheduled export fee for nitrogenous fertilizers regulates their export operations and provides the monthly quota for the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation to meet the needs of the local market and facilitate the farmer’s access to the quantities needed for agriculture."
