India has temporarily exempted the imports of remdesivir injection and its ingredients from the customs duty.

On 20 April 2021, the Indian Ministry of Finance through Notification No. 27/2021-Customs temporarily exempted the imports of Remedsivir Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, Beta Cyclodextrin (SBEBCD) used in the manufacture of Remdesivir, and Injection Remdesivir from the customs duty applicable on these products. Remdesivir API and Injection carry a 10% customs duty while a 7.5% duty is applicable on Beta Cyclodextrin.

The exemption is valid until 31 October 2021.

Earlier on 11 April 2021, India had indefinitely banned the export of Remdesivir Injection and API (see related State Act).

Remdesivir has been prescribed as a medication for the treatment of COVID-19 by several countries.
