Import tariff quota

On 30 March 2021, the Executive Committee of the Brazilian Foreign Trade Chamber issued Resolution Nº 184 establishing a 4% import tariff on polypropylene for a quota of 77,000 tonnes. The affected product is classified under the tariff subheading NCM 3902.10.20.

According to the WTO tariff download facility, the average import tariff applicable for products imported outside the quota is 14%.

The new import tariff quota applies for a period of 3 months.

Resolution Nº 184 was published in the Official Gazette on 31 March 2021, and the new tariff-rate quota applies as of 7 April 2021.

Notably, the new measure was adopted because polypropylene is one of the inputs used in the manufacturing of face masks which are used to prevent COVID-19. The import tariff quota is not limited to face mask producers.
