The government of Brazil has reduced the import duty set on ten products for a certain quota and extended the application of an already existing quota approved for polycarbonates in pellets.

On 23 March 2021, the Executive Committee of the Brazilian Foreign Trade Chamber (GECEX) issued Resolution No. 177 approving tariff-rate quotas on ten products.
Concretely, the new regulation established new import tariff quotas on special coffee extracts preparations, three types of infant food formulas, welding flux, certain acrylic copolymers, poly (ethylene terephthalate), two-component elastic polyester filament, certain polypropylene staple fibres, as well as on bearings for wind turbine transmission systems. The affected products were classified under tariff lines NCM 2101.12.00, 2106.90.90, 3810.90.00, 3906.90.49, 3907.61.00, 5402.47.10, 5503.40.00 and 8482.30.00.
The new import tariff quotas were established as it follows:
Previously to this legislation, none of the affected products enjoyed a tariff-rate quota.
The new import tariff quotas apply for a period of 365 days starting on 1 April 2021.
Notably, Resolution No. 177 also renewed an already existing import tariff quota approved for polycarbonates in pellets (please, see related state act).
