Labour market access

On 17 May 2013, the Ministry of Employment and Labor of Brazil announced a number of measures to simplify and streamline the process for visa application. The simplifications include a reduction in visa application fees and in the time needed to process visa applications. Moreover, official foreign documents needed for the visa do no longer have to be submitted with the application. The applicant now has 60 days to hand in the documents after filling the online application. Also, foreign nationals who wish to apply for a different visa no longer need to formally submit a visa cancellation request. Instead, their old visa is automatically cancelled once they obtain the new visa. Finally, foreign workers no longer need to be enrolled in local payroll from the day of their arrival. They now have a 30-days window to enter local payroll.
