In May 2013, the government of Australia announced a change for the labour market access of foreign workers.

Labour market access

On 14 May 2013, the Australian Government published its 2013-2014 budget measures. It announced a doubling of visa application fees for the sponsored skilled workers program (visa 457) starting on 1 July 2013. The fees will be increased from AUD455 (USD432) to AUD900 (USD854).
Moreover, the import processing charge (IPC) is also increased. Starting on 1 January 2014 and for consignments valued more than AUD10'000, the IPC will be AUD152.60 for electronic sea import declarations and AUD122.10 for electronic air import declarations (an increase of AUD102.60 and AUD81.90, respectively).
