In November 2020, the French government launched a support plan for the modernisation of the nuclear sector. The support plan was issued under the France Relance framework.

Financial grant

On 27 November 2020, the French government launched a support plan for the nuclear sector following the issuance of the France Relance framework. A financing programme to enhance technical capacities and a high level of industrial know-how for the nuclear power sector was included.

The programme will grant support in the form of grants or subsidies and it will be managed by Bpifrance. Eligible beneficiaries are all companies and/or research institutions. Priority, however, will be given to SMEs. Further details and applications will be open to submission within the first half of 2021. 

Moreover, four other programmes were issued under the support plan for the nuclear sector. The combined budget for these four programmes is EUR 370 million (approx. 442.6 million).

The France Relance framework, introduced in September 2020 as a short- and medium-term support plan to foster economic recovery in France in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Capital injection and equity stakes (including bailouts)

On 27 November 2020, the French government announced a support plan for the nuclear sector under the France Relance framework. The plan establishes the creation of an investment fund in which the government has contributed EUR 100 million (approx. 119.6 million).

The investment fund aims to consolidate shareholding and support the capital increase of companies involved in the nuclear sector. It will be managed by Bpifrance. Eligible beneficiaries will primarily be SMEs and mid-caps companies established in France with significant know-how in the nuclear power sector.
