On 10 August 2011, Chile's Ministry of Finance adopted Decree No. 1148 implementing the new customs tariffs law. The new regulation introduces a flat tariff of 6 per cent for all goods imported to Chile (with very few exceptions under section 0: special tariff treatment). This amounts to a de facto reduction in import tariffs compared to the previous law, in force since 2007, which featured some import tariffs above 6 per cent. For example, the previous import tariff on meat was set at 9.3 per cent. This measure enters into force on 1 January 2012.
