Import quota

On May 27, 2013, on a press conference Indonesian trade minister Gita Wirjawan announced the lifting of restrictions on imports of prime cut beef, in an attempt to control inflation and the scarcity of beef that prevails in the country. Nonetheless, the beef must be flown in - not shipped - to Jakarta, Bali or Medan. The policy also accelerates the quota for non-prime quality cut beef, with the amounts originally allowed for the second semester of the year now already available in the first.
In addition, imports of cattle will be allowed one month earlier than originally planned, in June 2013.
