On 21 August 2012, Brazil's federal trade council Camex decided to reduce the ad valorem tax rate on frozen sardines (NCM code 0303.53.00) from 10% to 2% for a period of 180 days. The reduced tariff is limited to the a quota, set at 50'000 tons. The measure has been taken to avoid an undersupply of sardines during the closed fishing season and is based on Mercosur resolution no. 08/08.
On 17 October 2012, Brazil's federal trade council (Camex) released resolution 73/12 revoking Camex resolution 58/12.
