Import tariff

On 30 December 2020, the Colombian government approved Decree N° 1796/2020 which eliminated the import tariffs applicable to electric motorcycles.

The Decree specifies that imports under HS code 8711.60.00.90 will be subject to a 0% import tariff for a two-year period. According to the WTO Tariff Download Facility and Decree 2153/2016 of Colombia, the previously applicable tariff was set at 15%.

According to the Decree, the objective of the measure is to continue promoting the use of electric vehicles in Colombia as a means to reduce the environmental impact of the transport sector. This measure is issued under the Law 1964/2019 and complements another series of measure that eliminates import tariff for electric vehicles (see related state act).

The new import tariffs entered in force on 14 January 2021, fifteen days after the publication of the measure.
